Webinar: Our Community In Transformation

Our Community In Transformation

Next Steps Towards Becoming a Restorative Region

Conflict is a part of live and living in community, but it can create great harm. When responded to restoratively, conflict can provide vital opportunities for connection, growth, healing and change. When responded to punitively, the harm caused by conflict compounds and often new harms are created.

  • 7:00-9:30pm Thursday, November 25th

It’s time we respond differently to conflict and harm in Waterloo Region. Join Chris Cowie, ED of Community Justice Initiatives (CJI), Tafadzwa Takaendesa operations personnel of Kind Minds Family Wellness, and MPP Laura Mae Lindo as they explore a restorative way of being in community. Moderated by Mike Farwell, our panel will deconstruct principles of restorative justice, restorative practice and transformative justice and explore how these tools can build towards a restorative region. When we respond restoratively, we can increase individuals care, compassion and accountability to each other. When our systems respond to conflict and harm in a way that seeks to build understanding and accountability rather than a focus on punishment, we can repair harm done enabling all parties can move forward more constructively.
